Genital Herpes

Herpes is a virus that is spread from skin to skin contact, particularly during unprotected sexual contact.

Symptoms
A first attack of Herpes occurs between 2-10 days after contact with an infected person and may last for weeks. Symptoms may include:
  • itching or tingling feeling at the site of infection
  • blisters or pimple like sores which later form scabs
  • flu like symptoms

Treatment
  • Genital Herpes can be managed effectively with medication.

Prevention
  • The best way to prevent infection is to avoid direct skin to skin contact with an area infected by Herpes
  • Using a condom and/or dental dam will reduce the risk of infection
  • Regular sexual health checks
  • Always thoroughly check your clients

Note:
  • Genital Herpes are highly contagious and can be spread even when there are no symptoms.
  • The virus stays with you forever and herpes episodes may recur, particularly when you are stressed, tired or not looking after yourself.
